Health and Wellness

Safety is a top priority for Freeport-McMoRan. We believe that attention to safety goes beyond the workplace, and we are dedicated to investing in projects and programs that support community safety and healthcare, which are critical elements of any safe and sustainable community.

Recently, Banner Health, Arizona’s leading health care system, has teamed up with The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center to provide a new comprehensive cancer center. We have committed $1.5 million over five years to help establish the new cancer center, in support of their mission to develop new treatment standards worldwide. We have also supported the Partnership for a Drug-Free America, Arizona Affiliate delivers a drug abuse awareness program throughout the state, including Arizona’s rural communities. Our support has aided in the prevention of substance abuse through training and informative workshops that are tailored to the needs of families in Phoenix and our operating communities.

One of our other partners in the area of health and human services is the United Way, with decades of experience in helping communities.  We provided over $5 million in 2010 and 2011 combined to benefit their various chapters in communities near our operations.

Among the other initiatives supported through our social investment programs are domestic violence shelters, youth and family support services, drug abuse prevention, elderly care, and youth health and exercise programs.
